A joint action day led by the EU border agency Frontex and supported by the OLAF, the European Anti-Fraud Office, has led to the seizure of 6.7 million illegal cigarettes and 2.6 tonnes of raw tobacco, along with half a tonne of illegal drugs.
The joint operation, called Arktos, involved law enforcement and customs officers from seven countries, EU agencies and international organisations. OLAF’s support for the operation focused essentially on information exchange between EU Member States and customs authorities.
More details on the results of Operation Arktos can be found on the Frontex website.
