Romania has a new national anti-fraud strategy for the protection of the financial interests of the EU in Romania, focused on prevention

The national anti-fraud strategy for the protection of the financial interests of the European Union in Romania, 2023—2027 (SNLAF) was approved on Tuesday, December 19, 2023 through the Government Decision nr. 1.259/2023, after it had been adopted on December 15, at the meeting of the Romanian Government.

The national anti-fraud strategy for the protection of the financial interests of the European Union in Romania, 2023-2027 represents the most important document, adopted at national level, on the protection of the financial interests of the European Union in Romania.

The strategy was initiated by the Fight Against Fraud Department – DLAF and the General Secretariat of the Government and it was elaborated by the the Fight Against Fraud Department – DLAF, following the consultation with the directly responsible institutions, gathered within the SNLAF network.

According to the European vision and following the anti-fraud cycle, the overall objectives of the strategy include: fraud prevention, fraud detection, administrative investigation and prosecution, recovery of funds and imposition of sanctions.

The strategy aims to coordinate fraud prevention efforts undertaken by all national partners for a high and healthy absorption of European funds, including those allocated to Romania through the Recovery and Resilience Mechanism, as well as for a full budgetary contribution of Romania to the EU budget.
