OLAF and Hungarian customs track down counterfeit air fresheners

The customs officers of the National Tax and Customs Administration of Hungary (NTCA), together with investigators from the European Anti-Fraud Office (OLAF), have uncovered a Budapest site where counterfeit air freshener products from Türkiye were found. OLAF also coordinated with the rights holder for the international activities of the investigation in Türkiye.

During the inspection of the premises in Budapest, approximately 140 000 pieces of counterfeit air fresheners were found, with an estimated value of approximately 300 000 EUR. The NTCA has opened criminal proceedings against an unknown perpetrator on suspicion of having committed a criminal offence of infringement of industrial property rights.

Counterfeit aerosols not only harm the right holder of the original products, but are also particularly dangerous for the health of consumers and the environment, which is why official action is particularly necessary for these counterfeit products.
