OLAF organises digital forensics training for national anti-fraud investigators

OLAF is organising its 13th digital forensics training from 21 September to 2 October 2015 in Zagreb.

The aim of the event, intended for national law enforcement officers in national and regional administrations, is to increase the protection of the financial interests of the EU by using proficient digital forensics tools. The seminar is funded by the Hercule III programme, which is a proven tool to support Member States in their efforts to fight illegal activities against the EU budget.

The training is bringing together computer forensic experts from 107 organisations in 39 countries in the EU and beyond. In accordance with the applicable legal framework, participants will have the opportunity to improve their skills in retrieving information of investigative interest  from computers, laptops and smartphones (digital forensics). Furthermore, the course will encourage the exchange of best practice within the pan-European network of digital forensics experts.

Highlights of this year's programme will include a two-week "Basic Computer Forensic Examiner class" (teaching all aspects from crime scene initial response actions to producing reports for courtroom testimony) as well as courses on specialised topics, namely forensics tools for mobile phones.

Background:

Hercule III is a financial programme specifically dedicated to fighting fraud, corruption and any other illegal activities affecting the financial interests of the EU. Among other initiatives, it offers training for anti-fraud specialists and provides for the collective procurement of specialised equipment and databases to be used by national law enforcement agencies. The programme covers the period 2014-2020 and will provide a total of EUR 104.9 million in support to Member States.
