OLAF information leads to major seizure of contraband tobacco in Spain

09/12/2020

Thanks to targeted information supplied by the European Anti-Fraud Office (OLAF), Spanish customs officials in Barcelona have seized more than 260,000 packs of contraband tobacco, worth more than €1 million.

The cigarettes were en route from China in containers declared as containing LED lights. Two people involved in the smuggling were arrested following a raid by the Spanish authorities. This is the third container seized by the customs in Barcelona in recent months, taking the total number of contraband cigarettes to more than 1,320,000 packs with a market value of more than €5.3 million.
