On 16 November 2022, the European Anti-Fraud Office held the 15th training seminar of the OLAF Anti-Fraud Communicators Network (OAFCN), with the participation of communication experts from several Member States, Europol, Eurojust and the European Investment Bank. The seminar focused on audio-visual production.

The participants had the opportunity to hear from experts introducing them to the audio-visual landscape of the Commission as well as to all the recent trends in the audio-visual area. They followed presentations and exchanged views on how to identify and seize all possible opportunities to communicate effectively, and on how to produce materials under various constraints.

The latter point is a recurrent challenge for anti-fraud authorities. The ambition of transparent communication and the objective to promote anti-fraud activities needs to be balanced with the obligation of respecting strict legal limitations and protecting confidential investigative activities.

Several of the OAFCN members also had the chance to present some of their audio-visual productions to the seminar. Representatives from Greece, Finland, Italy and Lithuania showcased some of their latest video creations, whilst another participant highlighted Europol’s positive experience with podcasts.

Background

OLAF created the OAFCN network in 2001 to bring together colleagues from national anti-fraud authorities across the EU who are responsible for communication and media.

Alongside regular meetings to discuss topics of shared interest and joint strategies, the OAFCN also provides training seminars to its members.
